My parents fostered my love of travel when I was a kid. They would buckle my sisters and me in the back of the car - or stow us on the train - and we would travel to many destinations in North Dakota, Montana and Canada.
At home, my sisters and I would play pretend travel, purchasing imaginary plane tickets with play money. In sixth grade, my best friend Mary and I went on a school-assigned imaginary trip to London. It took me 12 more years to actually visit London, but I followed much of that itinerary we planned when we were twelve.

And I still love to travel - in the USA and far afield. So for this web site, I've assembled an odd assortment of information that may or may not help you plan your own escapes, and perhaps to discover something a little off the beaten path.
The most detailed information focuses on Botswana, but also other destinations including my town, Washington, DC, and a variety of other destinations sorted by type: pure city, beach and waterfront, and mountains and plains.
I welcome your suggestions, comments, and corrections to this site. And know this caveat: this is my personal web site; information will easily become out-of-date.
