Ectopic Pregnancy

Amy's Story

My name is Amy and I am 26 years old. I have been married for about a year and a half. I went to the doctor on January 23, 2006 because I was having some pain and spotting for an entire month and that worried my husband and I. So I went into my appointment and submitted fluids for a test of my kidney's and such. She came in and told me that I was pregnant. I was floored. My husband and I were not trying to have a baby, but we weren't NOT trying either. It was pretty much, if it happens it happens. The doctor said that the pain and spotting worried her and she wanted to check my uterus to see if it was bulging. She told me everything looked normal, but she was still worried about the pain and sent me in to get an emergency ultrasound. So I went and that is when they told me that I have and ectopic pregnancy and that I needed to go to the emergancy room right away. I had no idea what an ectopic pregnancy was. I had only heard of it as a tubular pregnancy. Nobody really gave me any information regarding the pregnancy until I got to see an OB at around 9 or 9:30 pm. I found out that I was 7 weeks pregnant but the babies heart had stopped beating. Fortunately, I did not have to have surgery. The doctor gave me a Methotrexate shot that laid me out for a week. It was definitely tough. But thankfully my husband did not leave my side. I am over the painful physical part of this ordeal. But I am just beginning to delve into the mental aspect of this. My friend brought in her 9 month old baby boy today and it was really hard for me. I am not quite understanding why I got so emotional but I did. And I continue to be. My husband does not want me to get on any sort of BC, so we are going to try again. The good news is that I have both of my fallopian tubes. I just hope the next time will be better.
