Miscarriage and Stillbirth

A Stillbirth on Our Birthdays

Throughout my first pregnancy in 2001, my husband and I teased each other: "She's going to be born on my birthday." His birthday is November 17th and mine is the 18th.

I had the perfect pregnancy. Until one day everything went silent. On November 17, my husband's birthday, I went into labor. I followed my doctor's advice and stayed at home as long as possible. Who wants to be stuck in bed all day for nothing anyway? The baby was moving fine. When labor pains finally came on strong enough to go to the hospital, I couldn't feel movement because of the contractions. After all, they say it is normal for movement to slow before labor, as the baby conserves energy.

When I arrived at the hospital they discovered my baby had died maybe an half hour to an hour earlier. Our baby died on my husband's birthday and I delivered a beautiful girl on my twenty-first birthday.

The doctors couldn't see why she died, so they told us it was okay to try again. On January 29, 2003, my son died during labor as well. We still do not know why, but are hoping it is something that can be prevented. I was scheduled to be induced the day I went into labor with our son. When I arrived at the hospital, in labor, he had died more than likely within the past hour.

I do not understand these things but they happened. If anyone may know why, please let me know. They were both perfectly developed, no cord around their neck, or cord blockage, with no placenta problems. Perhaps you know of another rare case like this. Please help, but remember to be kind! Thanks.
