The Great Plains and Mountains

Thanks to my folks, we grew up on the edge of the Great Plains along the Missouri River as well as in the beautiful mountains of Montana. I've been lucky to explore countrysides throughout the world. Here are a few things to do in my favorite places.

Banff and Jasper National Parks, Canada: I haven't been to these parks since when I was twelve, and all the mountain ranges I have seen cannot compare in beauty and grandeur. Glacier National Park comes close. Valley of the Ten Peaks was well worth the drive. And at least one time in my life I hope to stay at the hotel at Lake Louise.

Bismarck, ND: Watching storms in summer evenings, enjoying wintertime snow (including sledding at the golf course), viewing the Northern Lights (appearance difficult to schedule), visiting Mom & Dad.

Blue Mountains of Jamaica: The Blue Mountains of Jamaica are pretty extraordinary. You can go into a paradise of coolness just miles out of Kingston. I highly recommend renting a house up in the mountains, and exploring the tropical forests. There is a former British garden that is well worth exploring.

Montana: Frankly, this state is becoming a bit overcrowded. So perhaps I should ask for bribes before giving hints about traveling to Montana, and Glacier Park in particular?

Tobogganing in Bismarck

Swiss Alps : The Swiss Alps deserve their excellent repution, and I hope to explore them more thoroughly in the future. However, my favorite outing in the Swiss Alps was in Annecy, France - where the center of the town is a nearly intact medieval village over six hundred years old. A sign advertising an apartment for rent was in a building from 1465. The architecture and history of the town is well worth investigating.

White Mountains of New Hampshire: Kudos to four friends of mine from Namibia and Botswana have climbed to the top of Mount Washington when they participated in RSI! In the summer, the base is warm and lovely, but it can be as cold as winter up at the peak. This part of the Appalachian mountains are comforting, peaceful, and an excellent East Coast getaway. The town of Gorham, NH is a charming place to stay overnight.
