Anime FAQs
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Here are some FAQs about anime. Be forewarned these questions go from Ultra Beginner to Super Otaku Stage 3!!!

Q: First off, what the hell does "otaku" mean?
A: Otaku is an enthusiast, or an anime super fan.

Q: What is anime?
A: Good question. Anime is short for "Japanese animation".

Q: How much does anime cost?
A: Well that all depends on where you get it. If you go to most retail stores, at oh lets say the mall, the prices are up around $29.99. If you buy online you can get the same tape for as low as $17.99. For DVD its $29.99 retail and $20.99 online. Now keep in mind these prices change a little. I recommend preordering if you are a DVD buyer, then you can get them for $17.99 or lower!!!

Q: Where can I get anime at good prices?
A: Just check out the retail links on our
Links page.

Q: What makes anime different from American cartoons?
A: (Note to self: Ask Matt for answer)

Q: Does anime have a parental guide?
A: Yep it sure does. Thanks to Pioneer for the gifs and text...ok ok I stole them :). The following shows how its rated.

Basically suitable for all ages. Titles in this category may contain mild violence, however there will be no strong language, no nudity, and no sexual situations.
Suitable for younger teens. Titles in this category may contain strong, but no graphic, violence, some nudity, some strong language and implied sexual situations.
Suitable for older teens. Titles in this category may contain graphic violence, prominent nudity, graphic language, and implied sexual situations.
Basically suitable for adutls only. Titles in this category may contain at least one of the following: extremely graphic and gory violence, excessive language, gratuitous nudity, graphic language, strong sexual situations, or graphically depicted sexual intercourse.

Q: Which are better "dubs" or "subs"?
A: Both! It just depends on which anime you are watching. I like my comedies to be dubs, but when it comes to serious anime the original Japanese is a must. Like I love the Tenchi dub (washu is the greatest), but I hate the Fushigi Yuugi dub. Anime like Dragon Ball Z and Rurouni Kenshin MUST be seen in the original Japanese!

Q: Why do the kids in anime have to stay after and clean the classroom?
A: Japanese schools do not have janitors. The children do most of the cleaning after class. That way, if the students have to clean up, they are more likely to be cleaner.
