Mentoring
Up Dan's Funny Farm College Bound Mini Vacation

This topic is worth some discussion.  Most of what I have learned about mentoring has come from a great book by Bobb Biehl (President of Masterplanning Group International) titled Mentoring:  Confidence in Finding a Mentor and Becoming One.   This book is well worth your reading and can be purchased at any Christian book store [Broadman & Holman Publishers; LCN 95-24227; ISBN 0-8054-6261-9]

MENTORING IS...
making available the mentor's personal
strength, resources, and network
(friendships/contacts) to help a protege
reach his or her goals.

Mentoring is not a complex subject, but in our opinion, it is the single most important element in the advancement of Christian leadership for the twenty-first century.

Mentoring allows the protege to move from TRIAL AND ERROR (learning by mistakes), to TRACK RECORD (learning by example).  Also, it helps everyone feel like "Someone really cares about me. I'm not just a cog in the oganizational machinery."

The mentoring relationship begins when a person with experience asks a less experienced person with high potential two simple questions:

  1. What are your personal and professional goals?
  2. How can I help?

An opportunity...

I would like to provide an opportunity for any Whitworth College student or individual in the Spokane area who would be interested in getting to know some Christian individuals in the business community and possibily develop a mentoring relationship.  We plan to collectively meet together for lunch once a month  and provide a comfortable setting to get to know each other.

Please e-mail me to show your interest in being involved.
