Over a 56K modem, this file will start playing in about half a minute. As you can see, the cello part is really quite simple, and that allows the performers to be very flexible with respect to dynamics and structure. Ernst's solo is played pizzicato, with the cello held sideways, as though it were a guitar. In fact, on some long notes you can hear him bend the pitch by pressing down on the tailpiece with his right arm, effectively giving the cello a whammy bar. |
