composer; born in Vietnam (1962) - immigrated to US in 1982. DMA in composition from University of Michigan. Recipient of several ASCAP Standard Awards, Meet the Composer Grants, and residencies at MacDowell Colony. Commissions from Kronos Quartet, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble. Assistant Professor at University of Illinois (Urbana). Guest composer at '94 New Music Festival (UC Santa Barbara); '95 Asian Composers' Forum (Sendai, Japan).

Mr. Phan's focus is on composing music which integrates the musical aesthetics of Southeast-Asia and the West.
