AUDIOVISUAL and OTHER FORMATS

There appears to be quite a bit of audiovisual material on things Hispanic in the AUCTR library but I did not search for it.  You can go to the online catalog, choose Advanced Options, and set the format box to "audiovisual" or one of the other audiovisual formats such as "Video Tape."  Then use a search strategy such as whatever your topic is -- for instance "Lorca" for keyword in the "by" box for the Spanish poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca.  It will give you a CMC location.  Ask in their office.  (Circa 2005, there was a new online catalog system vs. 2003.  You may have to experiment on this.)

It is even less well known that there are other formats of material available.  There are, for instance, collections of prints.  Since their was so much other useful material to examine, I did not get that far.  If the CMC staff do not have this material, they are probably the best place to ask.

OTHER BOOKS

All the following appeared more useful than the large majority of other material.  In most cases the title is enough to determine for what sub-topic it is useful.  Special notes apply in some cases.  Since what is available is not evenly distributed among sub-topics (literature, for instance is overabundant while print making is virtually non-existant), you may have to glean that material from something like Print Making of World/Multi-Cultural/Etc.

Britton, J.  (1997).  The United States and Latin America.  Lanham, MD:  Scarecrow Press.  [Call Number REF Z1609.R4 B75 1997]  This book is buried in the bibliography section.  After six good chapters of introduction to the subject, there are 200 word "annotations" to each of the entries.  If you want to learn what the Monroe Doctrine is, for example, and how it fits into everything else, quickly, or are otherwise doing your first paper on Latin America, this is a great place to start.  Also note that anything with Magill in the subtitle tends to be worth looking at, first.

Europa (Ed.) (2001).  South America, Central America and the Caribbean 2001 (9th Ed.).  London:  Author.  [Call Number REF 1408.29.S69 2001]  A regional survey; articles, country by country, more extensive than World Book

Kahneiler, D.  (1949).  The Sculptures of Picasso.  London:  R. Phillips.  [Call Number REF N553 P45K2]

Kanellos, N.  (1997).  Hispanic Firsts:  500 Years of Extraordinary Achievement.  Detroit MI:  Visible Ink.  [Call Number REF E184.S75 K36 1997]

Otero, R. (1974).  Forever Picasso.  NY:  Abrams. [Call Number REF ND552.P5 O7413]
