The art of Cloning is to reproduce or duplicate an entire organism (in some cases only an organ for transplant) by growing it from a single cell. This has many uses... it becomes possible to clone cattle to use for food, can clone individual organs for medical transplant, or grant a kind of immortality by cloning duplicate people.
Some clones are designed to grow extra fast until they reach a specified "age," but this has the tendency to make the overall lifespan of the clone shorter as well.
The most successful clones are a combination of cloning and Genetic Engineering, where the sample the clone is
grown from is genetically altered or enhanced. In some cases this involves replacing damaged DNA strains with alternate
DNA from another sample, or creature. In other cases it is a deliberate tampering with the DNA used to make the
clone in order to produce enhanced abilities in the clone that make it far superior to the original. [Jurassic
Park, others]
Something seems un-natural about the process of cloning to the point that it seems nature refuses to make it easy
to mass produce clones:
Carbon Copy Problem: as with photocopies, a clone can never be an exact copy of the original... the first generation clones may seem exact, but a little bit of the data becomes more and more "fuzzy" with each generation so that serious problems develop with second generation or later clones. These problems can take the form of mutation or genetic illness or the problems can be in the form of mental problems.
Mental Connection Problems: If the theory of Genetic Memory is correct, then it becomes possible to create a clone
that also possesses the memories of the original being. While on many levels this can be a good thing, in some
cases since both the original and clone have the same brain waves, a mental connection is formed. When this happens,
the clone becomes linked with the original on a psychic level, and even feeds off of the energy of the original.
If this happens, the clone cannot survive without the original.
Souls: In some cases it can be assumed that any given being only has one Soul. Therefore when you clone them, the
soul is not passed on to the clone, and it remains empty. It will be able to function, but only in the same ways
that a robot can. In other cases, when a clone is made from someone already dead, they inherit the soul of the
being they were cloned from. If several clones are made from a dead being, then one of two things can happen, either
one will be "alive" and the rest empty, or the soul will be divided among all the clones so that none
of the clones will feel spiritually whole.
