·    MindSpeed  Created hardware user manuals for an on-board programmable chip. Used M.S. Word and FrameMaker.

·    Live Vault   Managed all documentation for an internet-based backup system. Used RoboHelp.

·    Dow Jones  Created on-line help and training materials for software designed to manage newspaper dispatching. Used M.S. Word and RoboHelp.

·    ISO New England  Created policies and procedures documents for the organization that manages New England’s electric power grid. Used M.S Word, Excel, and Visio on Windows XP.

·    Unveil Technologies Created all documentation for a company that makes an automated call-center voice recognition system allowing callers to request information using natural language. Used M.S. Word and RoboHelp on Windows XP.

·    X-Tex  Created a business plan for a pharmacology research company. Outlined and edited a book on overseas outsourcing for the IT industry. Used M.S. Word on Windows 2000.

·    Trellix  Maintained all documentation for a company that licenses its web building software and web hosting environment. Created manuals and on-line help for administrators and end-users. Used M.S. Word and Visio on Windows 2000.

Created all documentation for a software productthat dynamically prices and sells bandwidth capacity at a spot market auction. Created manuals, reference guides, and on-line help for buyers, sellers, and administrators. Documented an XML API. Used M.S. Word, DreamWeaver, RoboHELP, and Visio on Windows 2000.

Lead Technical Writer,  3/01 to 11/01                                                      Philips Medical Systems

Headed a team that wrote a suite of manuals for a Philips ultrasound system. The manuals described the use of the system for tasks specific to each clinical application, for an audience of physicians and ultrasound technicians. All documentation passed regulatory verification and validation. Used FrameMaker and Microsoft Access on Windows NT.

Technical Writer,  9/99 to 3/01                                                   Nortel Networks

Wrote Nortel’s first book on MPLS protocol. Wrote an HTML guide to event messages on a router interface. Documented IP protocols. Wrote a book on configuring VPNs. Used FrameMaker, DreamWeaver, and WebWorks on Windows 95. 

Documentation Consultant, 1993 to 1999

·    Lucent Technologies Wrote a command reference on BGP for the world’s fastest telecom router/switch. Used FrameMaker and Adobe Acrobat on Windows NT.

·    Lightbridge Wrote, edited, and supported a database of design documents and notes pertaining to the creation of a new architecture. Used M.S. Word, Visio, and SmartDraw on NT.

·    Hammer Technologies Wrote a user manual for the most popular telephony-testing software package. Documentation consisted of Quick Start Guide, protocol configuration, test creation, test monitoring, installation, and sections on many utilities. The material was delivered as WinHelp, context-sensitive help, HTML, and hard copy. Used M.S. Word, Visio, and RoboHELP on NT.

·     CSC Consulting  Wrote a user manual for the Microsoft version of the Lynx development framework. Documentation consisted of Concepts, Procedures, API Reference, and E-Commerce Solutions sections. The material was delivered as Java Help, and as a website. Used M.S. Word, Visio, Doc-to-Help, HTML Help Workshop, Visual Basic 6, and M.S. Access.

·    Polaroid   Wrote software documentation for a laser-imaging product. Each software module was documented in a README file. The README file, along with a flow chart, was incorporated in a FrameMaker document. Used M.S. Word, FrameMaker, and Visio. Used FrameMaker in a UNIX environment and M.S. Word on a Mac.

·    Interqual  Wrote software documentation for medical decision-making/database software. The system was designed to aid the diagnostic process for physicians. The audience was physicians and medical engineers. The software worked on ActiveX SQL technology on a Windows NT platform. Documented APIs and GUIs. Used FrameMakerfor Windows.

·    GTE Labs  Wrote software documentation for telecom software, including APIs and Unix GUIs. Each document was published in M.S. Word or FrameMaker, and HTML. Documented engineering software (using C++ and Oracle). Won a GTE Teamwork award. Used M.S. Word and HTML on a Mac, and FrameMaker in a UNIX environment.

·    Hewlett–Packard  Wrote management-level and developer-level system specifications and a user manual for HL7 medical communications system. This system standardizes communication between medical computer systems. The audience for the documentation was physicians and medical engineers. Used M.S. Word and FrameMaker on Windows.

·    Nortel Designed writing and editing procedures for large documentation group. Created user manuals for wireless telecom projects. Documented engineering software (using C/UNIX and Oracle). Established ISO 9000 standards. Designed and edited documentation for large documentation group. Used FrameBuilder and a variety of graphics programs in a Mac environment.

Created multimedia user manuals and on-line help for AST's computer products. Used M.S. Word, Page Maker, WinHelp, RoboHelp, and CorelDraw.

·    NEC America   Wrote the user manual and promotional literature for a utility to help programmers tune C and C++ code. Used FrameMaker for Motif/X Windows on a Sun SPARCstation.

·    Symantec/Micronyx Wrote specs, hypertext help-screens, and user manuals for PC security software to run on Windows and OS/2. Designed and administered usability testing. Used M. S. Word, RoboHelp, FrameMaker, CorelDraw, and Brief. Used Information Mapping methodology.
