British Forces were stationed in the
Faroes from April 1940 until late Summer of 1945. Field Post Office
(FPO) 219 was used in the Faroes from August 1940 until September 1943.
The following cover endorsed"OAS" (On Active Service), signed by the appropriate
office in the upper left hand corner to authorize free-of-charge mail and
was sent to Scarborough, England.
1942
Letter dated 3 November 1942 sent through British Field Post Office
611 to a convent in Branksome Park. This Field Post Office was established
on June 4, 1942 and continued to operate until March 1944. The cover
is endorsed "OAS" (On Active Service) and censored signed by British Censor
No. 4255.
