Pre-Wedding Education

Joni and D.C. recognized and acknowledged early in our relationship that any good relationship, and all good marriages need lots of attention and hard work. Although D.C. didn't think it was necessary, Joni and he participated in three different types of pre-marriage educational courses to assist them in creating a long and happy marriage.

First, Joni and D.C. visited with Rabbi Sholom B. Deitsch, leader for the Chabad Lubavitch of Northern Virginia. Rabbi Deitsch instructed them in the traditional elements important in a Jewish marriage.

Second, the happy couple had a few sessions with a specially trained counsel through Jewish Social Services of Northern Virginia. This counselor had Joni and D.C. look introspectively and exam themselves, the way they interact with each other, and the desires for, and needs from, their marriage.

Third, Joni and D.C. participated in a wonderful group organized by Congregation Adas Israel called Sheva Brachot or Seven Blessings. The group provided Joni and D.C. with the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with young couples confronting similar, if not identical, circumstances.

Finally, although not an official pre-marriage counseling, Rabbi David Lieb, D.C.'s Uncle and the M'Sudot Kidushin spent several hours with the couple preparing them for the wedding and marriage.
