Daniel Breaks the Glass

The breaking of the glass is an old custom with many explanations. the most common explanation is that it is a reminder of the dstruction of the Temple of Jerusalem. Thus even at the height of personal joy, our sadness is recalled.

The shattered glass is also a reminder that although the wedding has provided a taste of redemption. the world is still in exile, broken and requiring our care. It is not only a reminder of sorrow but also an expression of hope for a future free from all sorrow.
