There are countless bridge players out there who can
benefit from these lessons by Masters, on defense as well as
playing the hand as declarer. The most efficient and friendly
format, I believe, is to study numerous situations and hands as
played by them, especially by the great legends of the game.
Through several decades I have accumulated a fine library
of sixty-odd volumes by the great Masters and writers from
Harold Vanderbilt and Ely Culbertson to Charles Goren and
Terence Reese. From these works as well as my own
experience, I have gleaned 100 representative lessons.
Many of the best examples were taken from Louis Watsons
classic The Play Of The Hand and from Card Play Technique by
the great British Masters, Victor Mollo and Nico Gardener. These
illustrate in detail how great Masters think and play.
The final part of the book is on the Strong Club bidding
system and strategy. More than six decades of consistent
winning at all levels has proven this to be a superior system and
strategy. The logic is clear and the system to implement it is
consistent, efficient and easy to remember.
After just a cursory reading, the average player will likely
retain little. To master most of the techniques and methods
requires a great deal of study and practice.
It is my fervent hope and belief that the average casual
player will benefit greatly from these carefully selected lessons.
