"Painting is my celebration of life. I want others to be able
to see what I see, to feel intensely the beauty and mystery in the things we look at every day."
-- S. C. Tucker
Living in Hillsboro, Oregon, just 15 miles west of Portland, gives me endless places to explore
and paint. There are urban sites in downtown Portland, beautiful vineyards in the Yamhill valley, misty scenery at the coast,
and quiet rolling farmland and orchards within a few miles of my house.
Using oils or pastels, I create quiet landscapes beckoning the viewer to step in and look closer. I
study places through the seasons, watching changes in the light and in the colors and textures of plants and earth.
My work is characterized by atmospheric
landscapes with careful attention to detail. I look for ways that people have made a mark – buildings, fences, paths.
Then I spend time looking for subtle color shifts, using many layers.
