In November, we
were thinking about halting our newsletter.
We left it up to you.
12/13/02 -
Although Update is fun to produce - as one can imagine - it takes lots of
work.
With little "un-prompted" feedback from readers, we suspected you just
didn't enjoy it.
We're happy to say, "We were wrong!"
Here are some of the general comments we received:
-
"This
is an outstanding marketing newsletter as is everything else I've seen
from your group. I think it would be very useful should I be marketing
myself or my company."
-
"I
love this letter."
-
"Excellent!"
-
"Great
stuff."
-
"This
is a valuable tool. I've used and referred and passed it on to others
countless times at this point."
-
"I
try to keep up, and this newsletter helps."
-
"I
like it. The only negative is that although I like the book reviews it is
clear that you are selling the books and that degrades the value of the
Update (but just a little bit). Obviously it takes a lot of time and
energy to put this together and if you aren't now trying to sell it as a
customized subscription service for other companies you are missing an
opportunity. That is obviously where the revenue stream would be
strongest."
(Editor's note: We've added a comment at our book purchasing page
disclosing the fact that we do have an affiliate relationship with Barnes
& Noble, and that we average about 50 cents revenue on a ten-dollar
sale. The books we recommend can be purchased elsewhere, but they cost the
same at our site as if one went directly to the Barnes & Noble site.
We have found Barnes & Noble service to be the best in the industry.
We will not change our affiliate relationship, and we continue the links
in our newsletter as a convenience for our readers.)
Here are
the numerical results of our survey:
1) On the "Best-to-Worst" Scale for an over rating 63.6% of you
rated the newsletter the best. 9% gave it a "2"; 18% a
"3"; 9% a "4"; and no one rated it lower than that.
2) The most popular section was "Think", with 70% of the votes. Next
came "Case Studies," followed by the "Fact File" section.
3) About the frequency issue, about 70& said frequency was "just
right," with 30% feeling the monthly newsletter is too frequent. You
might have noticed, we already stretched out the frequency a bit.
4) When asked if you like the on-line format (rather than getting a longer
e-mail), 98% responded yes, with 2% saying they don't really prefer one method
over the other.
5) 100% responded that navigation of the newsletter is "Easy."

We
welcome your continuing comments. They will be our guide in continuing "Update."
As we
"wrap up" the year 2002 ... we wish you the very happiest Holiday
Season and a hope-fulfilling New Year. We have created a Holiday Message -
focusing on the wonders of stained glass art as it appears in places of
worship throughout the world. If you would like to view this - and send it on to
others with your personal e-mail - click

Happy Holidays!
