I am a native-born Missouri Gal. Born in what later was to become Cass County, Missouri, in the year 1845. My parents came out West to Missouri from Kentucky to get away from all the crowdin' and fightin' over slavery. We never had slaves and most all of our neighbors didn't either. I suppose that's why we moved to Missouri. Although it is was a pro-slavery state, most of the people treated everyone respectfully.
Mom and Dad came to Western Missouri in 1835 with two babies. By 1845 when I came along they had aquired a small farm and had six more children.
