President EAA Chapter 72

It is with a sense of great pride and enthusiasm that I take over the leadership role as President EAA Chapter 72. I appreciate the confidence that Burrall Sanders, a past President, demonstrated when he nominated me, and then yours when I was elected. I am fortunate to be joined by my husband Richard, Aaron Hollingsworth, Diane Uberecken, Mike Jerger, Steve Trolander, Amy Bockius, Bill VonDane and Dave Greenfield.

At the November meeting, I gave a snapshot of what I want to focus on this next year:

    • We will be targeting programs that are technical how-to with hands-on workshops to follow as feasible on the weekends. Plan on Fabric Covering in February and Upholstery/Interior in March. Of course, the project tour, a traditional favorite, falls into that category.
    • We want to plan, communicate, and coordinate our fly outs to benefit more or our members. Our goal is to never have a plane show up at a fly out with an empty seat. So, we will be developing a mechanism to match up plots and passengers.
    • Building on our Young Eagle Rallies, we will be offering a Summer Air Camp to select kids. Hank Bartlett will be developing the curriculum which will include some ground school and flight training.
    • We will continue to partner with the Sertoma Club at the Colorado Springs Air Show as well as participate in and promote our EAA Rocky Mountain Regional Fly-in.
    • Nearest and dearest to my heart is "A Chapter Home", which was the inspiration behind the formation of the Aviation Education Foundation. I plan to promote fundraising events that result in donations from corporate and community leaders sufficient for us to realize that original inspiration.

I want to thank the past board members, Scott Benger, Phil Bratcher, Brian Walker, and Ray Uberecken. I will look for guidance from Scott Benger, and Burrall Sanders, most especially, my own Richard, and all of you.

EAA, we build and restore airplanes while having fun, let’s keep it going. …Sandy
